Contractor in OPUS Project

Mar. 2014 – May 2016 

I have been a contractor in OPUS 5 Research Project funded by the National Science Centre of Poland; “Optimal design of composite materials and structures subjected to fatigue loads”, Contract no UMO-2013/09/B/ST8/ 00178, 05.2014 – 05.2017. 

 

I worked in a multidisciplinary team dealing with the experimental mechanics of composite structures, numerical modelling, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and Infrared thermography (IRT). It required from me the cooperation with Department of Materials Engineering, Lublin University of Technology and external companies. 

 

I directly supervised thermal tests within the hybrid system based on the parallel application of the passive infrared thermography and elastic wave propagation methods. Consequently, the evaluation of the initiation and evolution of the failure form in composite multilayered plates with holes was more accurate. I used IR-NDT Thermographic system with FLIR IR camera and National Instruments equipment. Specimens were loaded by MTS 793 Material Testing System. 

 

I conducted a numerical analysis of the thermal behaviour of a composite structure with delamination with fluctuating thermal properties under fatigue loads with the use of ANSYS. I prepared literature review of the rapid determination of fatigue limits obtained with the use of infrared thermography for a wide range of materials, including composites. 

 

I operated REVscan 3D laser scanner to inspect the moulds, manufactured and damaged composite structures. My work also involved preparation of specimens and experimental setups. I devised the reports, documentation, analysed thermographic results and published papers.

PARTICULAR ACHIEVEMENTS

Constructed, tested and patented the novel delamination standard in the form of a pre-defined 10-micrometre void geometry and thermal properties within the curved multilayered composite structures.
